We'll be posing some questions about the Doris Kearns Goodwin book Team of Rivals: the Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln. Some things to think about:
What were the core principles that guided Lincoln's decision making?
What is the relevance of this book for us today--beyond just historical interest?
What parts of this book do you want to be sure we cover in our discussions on November 29 and December 7?
Lincoln and His Cabinet
First Reading of the Emancipation Proclamation of President Lincoln by Francis Bicknell Carpenter
I found much of Obama in Lincoln. Beyond the obvious-- underdog from Illinois, comes to power when nation is divided, lawyer, great stump speaker--I hope we get a chance to mention other similarities.
